Support services

Victorian universities and colleges and the Victorian Government have a range of support services to assist international students while they study. Services may include:

Airport Welcome Desk Welcome Desk - A free information service operating out of Melbourne Airport in late January/February and July. Receive a Welcome Pack, assistance with temporary accommodation and transport. Read here for more information.
Legal advice Legal Advice - The  International Student Legal Advice Clinic is a free legal and referral service. They run a drop-in clinic on Wednesday nights in the CBD. Read more about accessing advice from legal professionals and migration agents at the clinic.
Counselling Counselling - Counsellors provide a confidential service for students who require support and assistance in dealing with personal issues. This service is generally free of charge for students. Access counselling and other support.
Accomodation assistance Housing/Accommodation - An advisory service providing students with information and assistance to find accommodation either on-campus or off-campus.  Learn more about accommodation options.
Money and Finance assistance Finance - Advice to assist students with financial problems that may occur during their studies. Services may include provision of student loans and/or payment plan arrangements to pay tuition fees. Read more about money and finances.
Disability support Disability - Students with disabilities can receive assistance in order to undertake their studies. This assistance may include adaptive technology, note-taking and sign interpreters. Check your eligibility with individual institutions.
Health and dental support Health/Dental - Many institutions have medical and dental services available to students on university premises. Read more about health and dental services in Victoria.
Childcare assistance Childcare - Childcare services may be available to students who have children and need them to be looked after while they attend classes. Check childcare availability with your chosen institution or contact your local council office for information on casual local childcare.
Study assistance Study Support - There may be learning and academic support offered to international students, ranging from English language help and advice on essay writing, to time management and "buddy programs". Check with the student services office at your institution.
Trauma Trauma - Helping Loved Ones - Helping friends and family after a traumatic or distressing event can be difficult. Learn practical ways to help your loved ones. Information available in English and Japanese.

International Student Care Service

Contact the International Student Care Service (ISCS) for advice and information on health and wellbeing. ISCS provides friendly, professional and confidential support and referral to local services and community resources. You can contact ISCS in a crisis situation. Find out more about the ISCS.
