The Academic Year
The academic year in Victoria starts in February and ends in December.
Semester dates vary between institutions. Some short courses start every month. Most TAFE, university and college websites publish calendars with key dates for enrolment, orientation programs, semester breaks, exams, and when exam results become available.
Semester dates usually run:
Semester 1 – February to June
Semester 2 – July to November
‘Census’ dates usually start before the academic year. These are the deadlines for changes to your enrolment. For example, changes to your selected subjects, course withdrawal and payments may be due by the ‘census’ date. Ask your college about 'census' dates.
