Broni Lisle's story
Broni Lisle has followed his passion for acting, song writing and comedy around the world, performing in hundreds of locations globally and undertaking formal studies in both the UK and the US. His heart, however, beats for Melbourne and that’s where he chose to complete a Bachelor of Arts & Education.
With more than a handful of tours in the US under his belt and a habit of landing songs in the top 10 of Triple J Unearthed, the talented singer-songwriter (amongst many other things) loves Melbourne’s creative credentials.
So much to do with your free time in Melbourne
‘My favourite thing about Melbourne is the diverse range of things you can do with your free time. There is something great happening in every nook. I'm a music and theatre fan, and I'm spoilt for choice everywhere I go. Plus, I love coffee and craft beers, and there’s just so many great venues to spend my time in too!’
When the self-proclaimed ‘creative goofball’ is not busy soaking up Melbourne’s diverse cultural scene or performing around the world, he can usually be found at Deakin University. He’s making the most of his studies by actively participating in as many groups as possible.
Find university friends in class discussions, group work and collaborations
‘I’ve found most of my friends at university by being involved in class discussions. I’m also quite active in my participation in surrounding group work or smaller group discussions in class. I love the collaborative approach to university work.
‘A normal day for me now starts with a coffee, then I’ll write some music, head to university and either perform in the evening or teach theatre. It requires quite a lot of coordinating with other students, and one of the biggest surprises I’ve had is just how generous my fellow students are. Everyone’s so willing to negotiate and work around busy schedules.’
Enjoy the heartbeat of Melbourne on a tram
While you might expect his parting advice for new students in Melbourne to be buying a ticket to one of his shows, it’s much more simple than that:
‘Use public transport. You’ll get a real sense of the heartbeat of the city on a tram in the CBD. Plus, the CBD is a free tram zone, so it’ll cost you nothing!’
