Leadership Labs is part of Study Melbourne's flagship empowered program and is designed with a student-centred, strengths-based approach to capacity building and leadership skills development, social entrepreneurship, and volunteering.

Delivered by Campus Consultancy, Study Melbourne Leadership Labs includes a series of free events and streams (Volunteer to Lead4ImpactConnect) designed to develop the leadership skills and growth mindsets of international students across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

If you are an international student with a Victorian education provider, who is passionate about expanding your networks, committed to developing your skills and eager to step up as a leader in the community, this is the program for you!

Volunteer to Lead

Join more than a dozen speakers, community leaders and special guests, as well as a whole cohort of students who aspire to increase their leadership skills and take the next steps as community volunteers and leaders.

Students who participate will:

  • Develop their leadership skills giving them an employability edge.
  • Prepare a personal action plan to increase your community involvement.
  • Network and meet a whole new peer group of likeminded, motivated students and local leaders.
  • Learn from some of the most inspiring leaders and influencers in Melbourne
  • Gain a Certificate of Completion and a digital badge that you can add to your resume and share on social media.

4Impact (16 March - 26 May)

Study Melbourne Leadership Labs 4Impact is your opportunity to form teams with your peers and create a project based on one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. You will experience 12 amazing events and have a chance to join both in-person or online.

If you want to build friendships, develop creativity and leadership skills and work closely with a professional mentor who will guide your team towards success, this program is for you. After 12 weeks of mentoring and insightful events, all teams can participate in the final pitch competition with cash prizes for the winning teams!

As one of Study Melbourne’s most popular programs, we have to date supported more than 200 students in over 50 project teams to bring their ideas to life! More information will be available closer to the launch, you can register your interests for 4Impact and other Empowered programs.

Connect (April - May)

Connect is the peer-to-peer mentoring stream of Leadership Labs, ideal for international students across Victoria who are either:

  • New to Melbourne, having arrived less than 1 year ago (Mentees)
  • Experienced living and studying in Melbourne and Victoria for 1+ years (Mentors)

The program will help students develop skills in communication, empathy, interpersonal connection, networking, goal setting, time management, planning and confidence. Through our online workshops with Campus Consultancy, international students will be upskilled in mentoring and learn how to build rapport with their mentors/mentees. The program builds your foundation for rewarding mentor/mentee relationships whilst expanding your network and enriching your student journey.

Our workshops are:

1.     How To Be a Great Mentor (6 April, 11am-12:30pm)

2.     How To Be a Great Mentee (13 April, 11am-12:30pm)

3.     Speed Mentoring (28 April, 11am-12:30pm)

4.     Set You Up for Success in 2023 (11 May, 11am-12:30pm)

Mentors will attend workshop 1,3 and 4, while mentees need to attend workshop 2,3 and 4.

To be eligible for this program, students must meet the below criteria:

  • International student currently enrolled at a Victorian University, TAFE or other tertiary provider.
  • Comfortable communicating online (e.g., through Zoom).
  • Strong desire to learn and grow.
  • How to build effective long term professional relationships and networks

Registration:

1. For mentors (having lived in Melbourne for 1 year or more), register for Workshop 1

2. For mentees (having lived in Melbourne for less than 1 year), register for Workshop 2
