What is Study Melbourne Country to Coast?

Study Melbourne Country to Coast gives international students a unique opportunity to adventure beyond the city to experience the beauty and splendour of regional Victoria. The program will be delivered by Beyond Melbourne and gives 750 students an opportunity to join one, two and three day excursions to explore some of Victoria’s most renown country and coastal destinations.

Experience a day trip or overnight stay at the Grampians, Cape Otway and the Great Ocean Road, Phillip Island, and the Macedon Ranges and Daylesford.

At Mornington Peninsula (2-day trip), enjoy coastal walking and beach activity hiking along Bushrangers Bay through the National Park towards Cape Schanck.

At Phillip Island (1-day trip), enjoy Churchill Island viewing feeding farm animals before exploring native parts of Phillip Island and the iconic Penguin Parade.

At Phillip Island (2-day trip), enjoy time on the beach, learn about water safety and how to read the ocean before hopping into a wetty (wetsuit) and being led by a local surfing instructor in your surfing lesson. You will learn how to surf and capture many photographs of your adventures!

Geelong/Bellarine Peninsula – 1 day excursion

At Geelong/Bellarine Peninsula (1-day trip), enjoy the You Yangs Regional Park and be introduced to local customs working with the traditional local owners.

We will carry on to Geelong and explore the waterfront before boarding a local Whale watching and Dolphin swimming cruise, where you will have the option to get up close and personal with local marine life.

We'll continue to the Bellarine Peninsula and take part in a community led activity where we will give back and contribute to local conservation issues.

Yarra Valley – 1 day excursion

At Yarra Valley (1-day trip), enjoy searching for local wildlife and exploring the chocolate factory and other spots.

We will visit the Healesville sanctuary and get up close and personal with local wildlife and learn about Australian conservation.

If you are feeling adventurous, there is an optional tree surfing adventure before returning home to Melbourne.

Program Details

Each excursion is student-led, designed to create exciting and fun experiences in the natural world. You may also take away life-long, cross-campus friendships and networks, empower your connection to Victoria’s local communities, and improve your leadership and confidence through participation in the activities in each trip.

Each itinerary is tailored to the destination. Highlights of the program include:

  • Aboriginal cultural activities, including tours by local leaders
  • Scenic bushwalks and encounters with Aussie wildlife
  • Fun summer activities and games
  • Exciting activities such as surfing, rock climbing, canoeing etc.
  • Outdoor camping with open campfires and bush tucker
  • Immerse yourself in Victoria’s best beaches and bushland
  • Delicious meals and food are provided

Delivered by Beyond Melbourne

Beyond Melbourne’s International programs are innovative and student-led. They bring together international students and regional tourism organisations to plan and participate in cultural explorations in regional Victoria. The programs boost student confidence, cultural competence and promote the development of key employability skills such as leadership, communication, creativity and collaboration

Eligibility and Cost

To be eligible for this program, you must be a current international student and enrolled to study in Victoria. Each excursion is subsidised by the Victorian Government and offered to students at a reduced cost.

Each excursion event listing will contain the cost and registration details.

Places are strictly limited to one excursion per person. All you need to do is check out the itinerary for each excursion and decide if you would like an adventure in Victoria’s country or coast. Then sign up and register!
