What is Study Melbourne Global Game Changers?

Global Game Changers aims to empower the next generation of tech leaders, exclusive for Victorian current and prospective international students and alumni. It provides students with an introduction to digital and innovation skills, which are critical to participating in the digital economy and the future of work. You will be able to connect with global tech leaders such as Atlassian, Victorian industry including STEM, and make friends with student teams from around the world.

Melbourne has officially been named Australia’s most innovative city, and it is home to uni-to-unicorn startup success stories like Airwallex, Australia’s fastest-growing unicorn, founded by a team of international student friends, right here in Victoria.

Study Melbourne has partnered with HEX to bring you this entirely virtual two-week tech & innovation program designed to help connect students with their peers and create a tech-powered project – inspired by Victoria.

Over the course of the two weeks, you will work in your team to put your creativity to the test and submit a tech-powered project to a panel of industry judges. There will also be exciting masterclass and insightful panels for you to attend!

Eligibility:

You can register to participate in a team of three to five students. At least half of your team must be currently enrolled international students with a Victorian education provider, studying onshore or offshore, and recent alumni within the last five years.

Registration is also open for all individual prospective, current students and recent graduates within the last five years. You will be matched with an appropriate team by our delivery partner.

Registration Period: 12 April until 8 May for individuals and 10 May for teams

PROGRAM TEACHERS

Sarah Tan

Sarah Tan, is a Malaysian Product Designer and AR Specialist based in Australia. Previously, She designed digital experiences for Google, NASA, Facebook, Adobe, and more. She is passionate about creating meaningful and delightful user experiences as believes that design is a powerful tool of influence. On the side, She is passionate about pushing innovation in the immersive industry, particularly Augmented Reality (AR). She love experimenting, pushing the boundaries of AR/VR, and seeing how we can combine design with AR to achieve exciting outcomes.

Alfie Torres

Alfie is an international student who has studied at 3 countries — HK, Philippines, Melbourne. Currently, Alfie is HEX's Technical BA and UNIHACK’s Marketing Lead. He was a Student Fellow at Startmate and recently graduated from Monash with a Commerce/IT degree. Prior to that Alfie, explored entrepreneurship by taking Holmes — a health tech startup — to YGAPs First Gens program and Monash Seed Incubator. He is passionate about product, UI/UX design, and solving problems through frameworks and no-code/low-code tools.

Jeanette Cheah

Jeanette Cheah is the founder and CEO of HEX, an award-winning edtech company delivering internationally recognised innovation and entrepreneurship programs to university students and the next generation of talent. A globally in-demand corporate keynote speaker and panelist, she is also a guest lecturer and mentor at universities around Australia and an advocate for tech inclusion and diversity in business worldwide. Jeanette has represented Australia at the G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance in Argentina, was a Telstra Business Women’s Awards finalist, and in 2021 was named a 40 Under 40 Most Influential Asian-Australian and category winner for Entrepreneurship.
