Tell us a little bit about yourself and your achievements to date

I define myself as a passionate and curious Colombian woman who is always willing to help and support people, discover new places and enjoy life all the time. I studied business and international relations in Colombia, where I have participated in research projects in order to connect national politics with the contemporary world.

What are your goals for the future?

During my time in Melbourne, I have known myself and discovered how good I can be understanding people who want to go to other country and study there. For that reason, I want to find any connection and help people from different countries in order to bring them the opportunity to make their dreams come true.

Why are you excited about being a Study Melbourne Student Ambassador?

The idea that I will be able to support and be with people with dreams who are excited to discover Melbourne makes me feel responsible and encouraged. I will be more than an Ambassador; I will be their friend. It is a good opportunity to start to change the vision of being an international student.

Do you have any words of advice or encouragement for students who are thinking about studying in Victoria?

Life is about challenges and memorable moments. So, if you have a dream, why not make it true, make it your reality? The obstacles are just in your mind, but never in your present. Victoria and Melbourne are more than places to study or live in. They are places made to enjoy life, enjoy our present, write our future and make this place our home.

What is the most useful advice you ever received when you faced a challenging time as an international student?

‘’No dramas!’’ Yes, this was my first advice from an Aussie friend when I was feeling stuck with my studies. I had not found any job and I was feeling homesick. At that moment I had been in Melbourne for one month.

‘’Jessica, you are brave. You have taken the challenge to come here alone, and that was the biggest mountain. Now, everything is going to be alright, no dramas, you can do everything. Just let the things flow and start to think positive.” One week later I found a good job, my studies started to improve and my feelings went to the correct words: ‘I can do everything’!
