Tell us a little bit about yourself and your achievements to date

I am Project Engineer at Motorola Solutions and recently completed a Master of Engineering in Telecommunication and Cyber Security from Victoria University. My success story has been shared by Victoria University’s Talent Connect webpage – How I successfully secured my internship and graduate program opportunities even before I graduated. While studying I was holding leading positions such as Secretary and President for the WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Club at Victoria University to support women to step up into the technical field. Also, I have been involved in various panel discussions organised by AGL Energy and Motorola Solutions to share my experience in STEM.

What are your goals for the future?

My future goals involve learning and helping as much as I can until I eventually take on a leadership role to provide support to a larger team and shape them into successful individuals. I like to make connection with people and would love to support and see more gender equality, diversity and inclusion.

Why are you excited about being a Study Melbourne Student Ambassador?

The Study Melbourne Student Ambassador Program is a wonderful opportunity to build and maintain connection, work with a diverse group and give back to community. It offers lots of fun, leading events and opportunities to help and share knowledge with the students. It’s a great platform to provide ongoing support to the international students who have just arrived in Australia and make a better experience for them.

What are your tips for students who have just arrived in Melbourne?

  • Whenever you go to university or work make sure you build strong connections with the people as friends are family here.
  • Get out of your comfort zone to learn new skills. Participate in extra-curricular activities apart from your uni life.
  • Be kind to yourself while maintaining study-work-life balance.
  • Visit and explore various places in Australia.

What is your advice to students who want to build their opportunities for graduate positions when they finish their course?

Keep an eye on job portals such as GradConnection, SEEK or your target company’s career portal and always follow up after your job application.

Correct format of your resume and cover letter is a ticket for you to get shortlisted for an interview. Make sure you review it with the help of a mentor or Study Melbourne’s resume help one-on-one session.

Networking is a great way to connect with like-minded people. There are ways to build up a network such as attending events, seminars and workshops related to your industry and using Meetup, Eventbrite and LinkedIn apps.
