Tell us a bit about yourself and your achievements to date

I’m Ziggy, a recent graduate from Monash with a Bachelor of Commerce. I used to be a volunteer teacher in Cambodia teaching Chinese culture and I had a start-up in China related to advertising and culture promoting. I love travelling, playing ukulele and cooking.

What are your goals for the future?

I’m currently job hunting and may start a Master of IT degree at Melbourne University. In the long run, I hope to meet more friends from culturally diverse backgrounds and explore the world with a positive mind, then show my impact in some way someday.

Why are you excited about being a Study Melbourne Student Ambassador?

There are lots of tips I wish I had known two years ago when I first came to Melbourne. So I am keen on contributing to a community that helps international students to fit in and be able to share my experience with new students.

What do you love most about living and studying in Melbourne?

Diversity. You will see people who are different in what they look like, their beliefs, culture and ideas, but because we are all in Melbourne there are some commonalities. People contribute to different opinions and bring their uniqueness to this lovely inclusive city. I really enjoy it.

What is your advice to students who want to build their opportunities for graduate positions when they finish their course?

It’s never too early to think about your career.

  • Try different internships or projects when you are not sure about your passion.
  • Be proactive and search for networking events.
  • Start using LinkedIn to find people who are in your dream positions or industries and ask about their experience and feelings.
