On a sunny winter morning in July, 200 lucky international students took part in the Student Match Day Experience, hosted by Melbourne Football Club.
Students had the chance to learn more about Australian Rules Football (footy), gain some skills and then watch Melbourne Football Club play at Australia’s biggest sporting stadium - the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The day included a footy workshop with an Australian Football League Women's (AFLW) player and Melbourne Football Club staff. The workshop helped the students understand the rules and the cultural significance of footy.
There were plenty of opportunities for questions during a Q and A. It was a great day for learning about Melbourne, making new friends and trying new things.
After the workshop it was time to try an Aussie meat pie and then walk over to the game. The students had seats right next to the cheer squad, a prime position to see all the action and excitement of the game.
