Undergraduate
Undergraduate (your first degree)
An undergraduate degree is generally completed between two to four years, depending on the pattern of study and any recognition of prior learning you may have. Associate degrees, bachelor and bachelor with honours are all undergraduate degrees.
Postgraduate
Postgraduate (further study)
A postgraduate qualification can be undertaken by students who have already completed an undergraduate degree or possess significant, demonstrable work experience. Postgraduate courses include graduate certificates, graduate diplomas, masters and PhDs, as well as specialist programs for industry professionals.
Research
Higher Degrees by Research (supervised research)
Research degrees are research based master’s or PhD programs that focus on a single area of expertise. They provide students the opportunity to carry out highly specialised research under expert supervision.
The course content is truly reflective of the industry. With the ever-changing cyber security landscape, students are well placed to hit the ground running.

'Cyber Security is integrated into everything we do, and from early in my career I noticed a growing need for Cyber Security professionals in Australia. Every day we hear terms like 'data breach', 'cyber-attack' or 'ransomware', and the impact these issues can have on individuals, organisations and governments. Security extends beyond technology and into the physical world, integrated in everything we do.
My career as a Penetration Tester allows me to assist organisations in securing their infrastructure and digital assets. Through emulating real-world cyber-attacks and advising on best practice security strategies, I am able to assist clients in providing a safe and secure environment for consumers. Ultimately, what led me to a career in cyber security was the opportunity to make an impact in people's lives.
My role requires me to work with a variety of different systems, be it web applications, infrastructure, mobile or even physical security. From there, I work with countless types of technology, frameworks and programming languages, across multiple industry sectors. These applications are often cutting-edge or have not been released, so as a technology enthusiast I get the opportunity to work with some really awesome systems and applications.'

Students studying cyber security will have the opportunity to complete industry cyber security certifications. This means when a student completes their studies they will have a greater opportunity to gain employment within the cyber safety industry.
Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation
Deakin's Centre for Centre for Cyber Security Research and Innovation (CSRI) develops innovative technologies and methodologies for securing cyberspace in Australia and beyond. Engaging directly with industry and governments through collaborative research projects, CSRI provides protection from major IT security threats. CSRI models and informs policy development as well as raising cyber safety awareness levels.
