Tell us a little bit about yourself and your achievements to date.
I recently won the Victorian International Student of the Year Award for VET Category. Apart from being a Study Melbourne Ambassador - I do a lot of things on the side such as writing for The Philippine Times (Australia) and supporting the Philippine Consulate General in Melbourne. I recently joined Welcome Dinner Project as an International Student Engagement Enabler. My passion and fondness for the international student community grew bigger during the beginning of pandemic when I saw a massive number of international students in need of company to support their well-being.

What are your goals for the future?
I might be one of those who has no idea about what tomorrow brings but one thing is for sure – I want to be in the Public Service. I see myself supporting different communities in the best possible way that I can.
What is the most useful advice you ever received when you faced a challenging time as an international student?
Life as an international student can be tough especially when homesickness starts to hit you. However, your capacity as a person is measured when you must do things on your own feet. Lastly, there is a lesson in every challenge you face, and that lesson will make you grow stronger and help you get closer your dreams so don't give up.
What is your advice to students who want to build their opportunities for graduate positions when they finish their course?
I met a few international students who mentioned to me that language has become a problem for them to fully get involved in gaining experience. If you think that you are not confident enough in speaking English because you are so terrified to make mistakes – STOP thinking that way. Embrace your own unique language. If you make mistakes, that’s okay and practice makes perfect as they say.
In addition to that, grab every opportunity that will come your way but make sure you are committed. Start from volunteering, building network and from there you can start working your way.
