On Tuesday 27 June 2017, international students from La Trobe University reunited with Bendigo's Federal Member of Parliament the Hon. Lisa Chesters MP.

The occasion was a  lunch hosted by Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services (LCMS) – one of  the events has been organised by LCMS under the Study Melbourne International Student Welfare Program.

During the event, international students enjoyed delicious Indian food and talked about the issues affecting them, including public transport, scholarships, job opportunities and accommodation options available for international students in Bendigo.

Students said they were happy for the opportunity to share their ideas for making Bendigo even more attractive for international students.

Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services (LCMS) is a non-profit organisation committed to promote and celebrate the rich diversity and multiculturalism in the Loddon Campaspe region of Victoria. LCMS is an ethnic communities council and the peak body for migrant and refugee groups in the Loddon Campaspe region, with both individual and organisational members. Working in the Bendigo region for over 15 years, LCMS supports multicultural communities to build successful lives in Bendigo, whilst also working with all residents to create a more inclusive community.

Since July 2016 Bendigo, LCMS has been delivering a project to provide international students in Bendigo with opportunities to immerse in the local community and develop lasting relationships with the city and its inhabitants. This project is supported by Study Melbourne through the International Student Welfare program.

LCMS has developed and organised different events for international students to engage with the wider community.  The recent event ‘A Welcome to Bendigo lunch for international students’ took place on 27 June 2017.
