Study Melbourne partnered with Melbourne Writers Festival 2017 to host a storytelling competition for international students. ‘Bunjil’ by Kali-Ray Skinner from the United States of America was shortlisted in the University category.
Bunjil
To me, Melbourne is a storybook, unfolding in front of my eyes.
She is a hum, so quiet, so fine tuned
That one can only really hear her hue if they pay attention to the birds
Who hop on paperbark trees- i want to pull off their decay delicately
And let the story write itself.
I lean on them after my morning jog down Geelong Road, and feel such a warmth shine down my spine. Like the ancestors of the Boonwurrung tribe have seen my journey and have gifted
