Mauricio is studying a PhD in Philosophy at Deakin University. Through his own experience as an international student, he is keenly aware of how detrimental social isolation can be to new students. Mauricio has supported domestic and international students as the IFM Student Representative, as a lecturer and tutor in engineering at Deakin University.

Initially I decided to come here and study because I wanted to complete a PHD in engineering, my profession.
For me, winning this award is really good. It’s a recognition that encourages not only me, but all the people that come here as international students and want to become part of Victoria and Australia. It’s possible and I have had a really good experience.
