In the largest-ever series of QS subject-specific rankings 2023, Australia ranks as the third-best higher education system globally, with the University of Melbourne one of only three universities worldwide to have 48 disciplines each ranked within the top 50 globally.

Outstanding sustainability achievements

The 2024 QS World University Rankings: Sustainability showcases the outstanding sustainability achievements of higher educational institutions in Victoria, with the University of Melbourne securing the impressive #9 rank and Monash University close behind at #23 among the top 25 institutions worldwide. These rankings are a testament to the dedication of these institutions to prioritising sustainability.

The University of Melbourne emerges as the global leader for Environmental Sustainability and claims the 3rd position in the Impact of Education category. This recognition underscores the University of Melbourne's pivotal role in driving sustainable practices and shaping socially responsible leaders of the future.

Two other Victorian Universities are also ranked within the world's top 100 with RMIT University at #62 and Deakin University at #66.

Victoria’s universities offer research expertise rated ‘above world standard’ across  96 disciplines in the Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) rankings.
