Tell us a little bit about yourself and your achievements to date

My name is Saaniya Kadam and I am from India. I am an architect and currently pursuing a Master of Construction Management from Deakin University. I practiced architecture for three years and created my own start-up in India. On coming to Melbourne, I have been an active member for various clubs at Deakin University. I am a peer mentor and my role includes mentoring the new students and helping me them to cruise through  uni life. I have volunteered for non-profit organisations in Geelong.

What are your goals for the future?

I aim to become the best version of myself every day. My short-term goal is to finish my master’s degree successfully, grow my knowledge and get hands-on experience professionally. My long-term goal is to become a design-construction manager and practice honestly and sustainably towards the surroundings. I aim to volunteer for non-profit organisations and to make a difference in people’s lives through propagating education and mental wellbeing.

Why are you excited about being a Study Melbourne Student Ambassador?

Being a part of Study Melbourne is a great opportunity for any student who is studying in Melbourne. As a Student Ambassador I am thrilled to take upon the responsibilities and showcase my journey through the lens of the Study Melbourne program. I am exhilarated to hone my skills in the area of personal development, communication and team play. I also look forward to meeting and engaging with various individuals from different ethnicities, industries and professions. I want to ace the objectives of Study Melbourne and give back to the student community.

What are your tips for students who have just arrived in Melbourne?

Moving to a new city can be very overwhelming. You will come across various kinds of people with various experiences telling you their perspectives. In situations like this, try to be calm and rational. Engage yourself in a physical activity at least five days a week and have a timetable at the start of the week to manage your time. Do not be hard on yourself, it’s ok to loosen up. Explore the city, plan picnics, spend time with yourself. Don’t be hesitant, be confident. We are living in one of the best cities, so while we are here let’s make the most of it and live to the fullest.

What is your favourite place to hang out with friends in Melbourne?

Melbourne is one of the liveliest cities I have ever lived in. On days when I am not at uni, me and my friends love to tie up our laces and explore the city. We love going to the NGV and experiencing the art and installations. One of my favourite things to do in Melbourne is to try new cafes and pubs. I am a big coffee addict so walking down the lanes of Melbourne in search of unexplored cafes is something I love doing. Do not miss the chance of sitting at the Yarra river and watching the whole city light up when the sun goes down.
